3 Myths About Montessori Education – Montessori For Toddlers

Hi Everyone..! Today, I’m attempting to write this blog about – 3 Myths about Montessori education. I am going to try to talk about some of them in this blog and in more upcoming ones too.

Myths About Montessori Education:

Here are the 3 myths about Montessori Education which are actually frequently asked questions to us:

Myth #1 : In Montessori Environment, children are under-supervised and can do whatever they want.

The Montessori Method is a system of teaching that gives children the power to choose their own activities. This method allows them freedom without any outside interference from adults as they learn how to use materials through lessons and modeling by peers. If, however, a child becomes disengaging at task or inappropriate with the work then teachers can intervene them and gently can redirect the child back onto the right path. So, there is freedom for children in Montessori but with in limits.

Myth #2 : Montessori discourages children from working together.

Well, this is a very common myth among parents that Montessori education discourages children from working together. Montessori classrooms differ from traditional ones because they allow children to work alone or in groups. Younger kids sometimes prefer to work alone so that they can have more control over what is being done and this is actually supported by the Montessori environment as it allows a lot of independence during these early formative years. While on the other side, older students sometimes do not want to work on their own but rather they love to collaborate with others.

Myth #3 : There is no play in Montessori system

The children at 3-to-6 year old level does not really distinguish between work and play. They enjoy themselves in an environment that is just for them, where they can interact with others who are their age group while learning a variety of skills including art, music and drama among many more.

I hope I have been able to expose and bust these myths about Montessori Education today to help understand its working.

Thanks,
